Sometimes despite our best efforts, a tooth cannot be saved and extraction becomes necessary. Our oral surgery team in Bangalore performs extractions with maximum comfort and minimal discomfort using painless dentistry techniques.
When Is Extraction Necessary?
- Severe tooth decay beyond restoration
- Advanced gum disease with significant bone loss
- Impacted wisdom teeth causing pain or damage
- Cracked teeth fractured below the gumline
- Overcrowding before orthodontic treatment
- Failed root canal treatment
- Teeth in the line of jaw surgery
Types of Extractions
Simple Extraction
For visible teeth above the gumline:
- Local anesthesia numbs the tooth and surrounding area
- An elevator loosens the tooth
- Forceps gently remove it
- Gauze placed for clot formation
- Time: 5-15 minutes
Surgical Extraction
For broken, impacted, or below-gumline teeth:
- Anesthesia (local or sedation)
- Small incision in the gum
- Tooth may be sectioned for removal
- Stitches placed
- Time: 20-45 minutes
Before the Extraction
- Full medical history review
- X-rays to assess root position
- Discuss sedation options
- Arrange transportation if sedation is planned
- Eat a light meal beforehand (unless sedation)
